Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Wesley Matthews has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right leg and will likely miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
The Mavericks are prioritizing the future over wins at this point in the season, so it makes sense for the team to lean towards shutting the 31-year-old veteran down. With Matthews out, Yogi Ferrell will likely become a fixture in the starting lineup while J.J. Barea should also take on a few extra minutes.
Matthews is averaging 23.6 FanDuel points per game this season, with 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.4 3-pointers per contest.
