Free agent Greg Monroe will sign with Celtics
Free agent power forward/center Greg Monroe will sign with the Boston Celtics, reports ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Monroe was bought out by the Phoenix Suns and became a free agent after clearing waivers. A number of teams were interested in signing him, but the Celtics have won him over with the chance to compete for a title. The New Orleans Pelicans reportedly offered him a starting role but could only offer $2.2 million to Boston's one-year, $5 million deal. He will almost certainly steal minutes from guys like Daniel Theis and Aron Baynes.
Monroe is averaging 10.4 points and 7.4 rebounds through 25 games (14 starts). He's projected to average 26.8 minutes, 10.5 points and 8.7 rebounds over the rest of the 2017-18 season.
