Pelicans' Anthony Davis likely out Thursday with knee and quad injuries
According to The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears, New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said forward/center Anthony Davis is unlikely to play on Thursday against the Sacramento Kings.
Other outlets are reporting the same, and it's basically but a confirmation of what everyone expected. The Pelicans have always been cautious with their superstar forward and, with two injuries to speak of, they'll continue to act in that way. Plus, the Pelicans are probably aware that they'll be unleashing DeMarcus Cousins in his first game back in Sacramento tonight. As he picks up more usage, look for Dante Cunningham or Cheick Diallo to draw the start beside Boogie.
Projected for 36.8 minutes, 27.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in tonight's game against the Kings, Davis' absence would open up more scoring and rebounding opportunities for his frontcourt mate. Given that the Pelicans are 2.5-point favorites in a game with an over-under of 206, the news make Cousins an even more intriguing option on Thursday's DFS slate.
