Boston Celtics guard/forward Gordon Hayward suffered a dislocated left ankle and fractured tibia in Tuesday's season opener, reports the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn.
Hayward left early in the first quarter after suffering a gruesome ankle injury. He was evaluated at the arena and later sent to Boston for further evaluation and what will, in all likelihood, be surgery. He hasn't been given a timetable of any sort and there will be no update until coach Brad Stevens speaks to the media at 4:30 p.m. EST. Marcus Smart could see time in the starting lineup until Marcus Morris (knee) returns. Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Terry Rozier might play additional minutes throughout the 2017-18 season as well.
Hayward left the game with 2 points on 1-of-2 shooting and 1 rebound. We had him projected as a top-25 option in fantasy basketball this season.
