Russell Westbrook and Thunder agree to $205M contract extension
The Oklahoma City Thunder and point guard Russell Westbrook have agreed to a 5-year, $205 million contract extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
What It Means:
All the questions and rumors about the long-term future of Westbrook in OKC can now be squashed as the reigning MVP now has the largest contract in NBA history ($233 million) and will remain with the Thunder until 2023. With Russ back in the fold, the team can now try and work their magic on keeping Paul George and Carmelo Anthony for longer than one season as they try to bring an elusive title to Oklahoma.
Our models project Westbrook for 26.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.9 steals, and 4.7 turnovers per game while shooting 42.9% from the floor in 2017-18.
