Ricky Rubio traded to Utah for 1st-round pick
The Utah Jazz are trading their 2018 first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Minnesota Timberwolves for point guard Ricky Rubio.
The pick Utah is sending is top 14 protected, meaning the Jazz are not giving up much to acquire their point guard of the future. Still only 26-years-old, Rubio is under contract for two more seasons at a reasonable $14 million per year. The Jazz can now show Gordon Hayward they are trying to build a winning roster as they hope to keep their star in Salt Lake City. Jeff Teague looks like the favorite to land in Minnesota as the team's starting point guard next season.
Rubio averaged 11.1 points, 41 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game while posting a 0.9 nERD rating last season, ranking 110th out of 486 NBA players.
