Paul Millsap opts out of contract with Atlanta, will become a free agent

Atlanta Hawks forward/center Paul Millsap has opted out of his contract for the 2017-2018 season, meaning he will be a free agent this off-season, per The Vertical's Shams Charania.

What It Means:

This doesn't necessarily mean Millsap is leaving Atlanta -- he said in April that he wants to be back with the Hawks, and he is likely to command a max contract, which is more than the $21.4 million he would have made with this option. Expect him to be one of the hottest free agents on the market this summer.

Millsap finished the 2016-2017 season averaging 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals over 34.0 minutes per game. His 3.5 nERD ranked 65th in the NBA this season.
