Rudy Gay (Achilles) will opt out from Kings' deal

Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay (Achilles) plans to opt out of his contract in order to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, according to his agent Roger Montgomery.

What It Means:

It's a surprising move, as Gay could have guaranteed himself $14.3 million by opting in for another season in Sacramento. Turning 31 in August, Gay is reportedly "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from a ruptured left Achilles tendon. He's eyeing a mid-June return to the court.

Gay averaged 18.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 3-pointers in 30 games this season. His .559 true shooting percentage was a new career high while he finished fourth on the Kings with a -0.5 nERD.
