Knicks' Phil Jackson says Carmelo Anthony 'better off somewhere else'

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony "would be better off somewhere else," stated Knicks president Phil Jackson.

What It Means:

"We have not been able to win with him on the court," Jackson said. This is the first time he's made this clear of a statement in regards to Anthony's future with the Knicks. Per an ESPN report earlier today, Melo is "leaning strongly" towards waiving his no-trade clause.

Anthony averaged 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 3-pointers in 34.3 minutes per game this season. His .535 true shooting percentage was a slight improvement over the past couple years, but he still finished only 269th in the NBA -- tied with fellow 2003 draftee Dwyane Wade -- with a -0.7 nERD in 74 games played.
