Cavaliers prioritizing rest over homecourt
Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue hinted on Monday that he may be willing to sacrifice the top seed in the Eastern Conference in order to rest his best players.
The question comes down to whether rest is more important than playoff seeding. "It's crossed my mind," Lue said. "I might get in trouble [with NBA commissioner Adam Silver], so I don't know." Cleveland is currently a half game behind the Boston Celtics for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, but LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are currently 2nd and 14th in the league this season, respectively, in minutes played per game.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Cavaliers rank 7th in numberFire's NBA Team Power Rankings. They're one spot ahead of Boston, but still behind the Toronto Raptors (4th) among Eastern Conference teams. We currently give Cleveland a 6.0 percent chance -- fifth-highest -- of winning the title this season.
