76ers' Joel Embiid expected to have surgery

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (knee) is expected to have surgery, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

What It Means:

He is meeting doctors in Los Angeles this month, according to head coach Brett Brown. "It's all on the table, trying to do homework," Brown said. "There's nothing like to me [that is] news in what I just said. We are just feeling it all [out]." With Embiid's partial tear in his meniscus, the doctors will try to determine if he should get a partial meniscectomy, a meniscal repair or a complex surgery with a longer rehab. Hopefully, this potential surgery won't affect his offseason too much.

Through his first 31 NBA games, Embiid is averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 steals, 2.5 blocks and 1.2 3-pointers per contest in only 25.4 minutes per game. His 0.7 nERD this season ranks just outside of the NBA's top-100 players and is second on the 76ers.
