J.R. Smith and Cavaliers agree to 4-year, $57 million deal

The Cleveland Cavaliers and guard J.R. Smith have come to terms on a four-year, $57 million deal.

What It Means:

Only the first three years and $45 million are guaranteed, but after reports of the two sides not being close, a reported late push by the Sixers has pushed the Cavs to offer up more money. The Cavs were originally offering $10-$11 million per year, so this represents a great deal for Smith.

Smith's Cleveland renaissance continued in 2015-'16 with a .535 effective field goal percentage. What makes that mark so impressive is Smith attempted 510 three-pointers while shooting 40 percent from deep. This was the best three-point percentage of any player outside of Golden State last season with at least 500 attempts. It was nearly a career best for Smith as well.
