Nuggets believe Jusuf Nurkic, Nikola Jokic can play together
Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone said the team "[has] two young bigs that can play together."
What It Means:
It sounds like Malone isn't opposed to the idea of playing Jusuf Nurkic and Nikola Jokic together. In the last 11 games of the 2015-2016 season, Jokic logged 12 percent of his minutes while Nurkic was out there with him. They recorded a positive net rating together and looked solid against teams with size. Nurkic's injury record will likely incline the Nuggets to keep him on restricted minutes, but the big man makes for an intriguing draft option once the safer names are off the board.
On a per-36-minute basis last season, Nurkic averaged 17.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.9 blocks and 1.3 steals for the Nuggets. Jokic had a fantastic 6.2 nERD in his NBA rookie season, and he averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 21.7 minutes a game.
