James Johnson heads to Miami on one-year deal

Free-agent forward James Johnson has agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with the Miami Heat.

What It Means:

The Heat are now pretty stacked at forward with Luol Deng, Derrick Williams, Justise WInslow and Johnson. Deng should see most of his time at power forward depending on the health of Chris Bosh, so Johnson is likely going to see limited backup minutes at small forward. However, Winslow is not a lock to start, so Johnson has a chance to see minutes in the high teens next season.

In 16.2 minutes per game Johnson averaged 5.0 points, 2.2 boards, 1.2 assists and 0.6 steals for the Raptors last season. The former 16th overall pick is entering his eighth year in the league and he had a -1.2 nERD and a .517 effective field goal percentage last year.
