Wayne Ellington agrees to two-year deal with Heat

Free-agent guard Wayne Ellington has agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with the Miami Heat.

What It Means:

With the departure of Dwyane Wade to Chicago, the Heat had a big hole to fill at shooting guard. Second-year pro Josh Richardson is expected to take over starting duties, but Ellington will serve as the backup shooting guard in Miami. The Heat will be his sixth team in five years.

Ellington owned the league's 23rd-worst nERD at -5.1 in 2015-'16. He averaged 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 21.3 minutes per game in Brooklyn last year, with an effective field goal percentage of .474.
