Austin Rivers will re-sign with Clippers

Free agent guard Austin Rivers will re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers on a three-year, $35 million-plus deal.

What It Means:

Rivers played very well last season backing up Chris Paul, and the 23 year-old will return to LA to be coached by his dad for another three seasons. He posted career highs in points and field goal percentage last year, and while he will still be coming off the bench, the departure of Jamaal Crawford could expand his role to the first guard off the bench for LA.

Rivers finished the year averaging 8.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 21.9 minutes per game last season, which translates to per-36 averages of 14.6 points per game. He had an effective field goal percentage of .498, which was the best mark of his career.
