Hornets actively trying to retain Marvin Williams

The Charlotte Hornets are trying to re-sign forward Marvin Williams, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

What It Means:

The Hornets were able to re-up Nicolas Batum on a five-year deal, and with Jeremy Lin moving on, Williams is now the top priority for Charlotte. Al Jefferson has signed with the Indiana Pacers, so the Hornets will have plenty of cap space to negotiate a deal for the stretch four Williams.

Williams posted per-game averages of 11.7 points, 6.4 boards, 1.4 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.9 3-pointers in Charlotte last season, with an effective field goal rate of .554. He shot a career-best 40.2 percent from beyond the arc last year and ranked 24th in the league with a 6.7 nERD.
