Thomas Robinson will opt out of contract with Nets

Brooklyn Nets forward Thomas Robinson intends to opt out of his contract for the 2016-17 season.

What It Means:

It makes sense because the big man would've made just $1.05 million if he exercised his player option. Despite struggling for the majority of the season, Robinson thrived in seven starts down the stretch, averaging 14.6 points and 12.3 rebounds with six double-doubles. He's already been linked to the Spurs this summer, but expect several other suitors to emerge in the coming weeks.

Thomas finished the year averaging 4.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in only 12.9 minutes per game, which adds up to per-36 averages of 12.1 points and 14.1 rebounds. When the Nets shut down their starters late last year, Robinson had a six game stretch where he averaged 15.3 points and 13.0 rebounds in 28.5 minutes per game.
