Mavericks' Deron Williams undergoes sports hernia surgery

Dallas Mavericks guard Deron Williams recently underwent surgery to correct his sports hernia.

What It Means:

Williams is expected to be good to go for the start of the 2016-17 season, but it's unclear exactly who he will be playing for as he's expect to opt out of his contract in order to become an unrestricted free agent. There's reportedly mutual interest between Williams and the Mavericks, and it'll be interesting to see what kind of deal Williams can earn on the open market after yet another injury plagued season.

Williams averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 assists this season. He had a nERD of -1.9 through 65 games in 2015-'16.
