Minnesota's Kevin Martin, Kevin Garnett and Nikola Pekovic without timetables
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin (wrist), center Kevin Garnett (knee) and forward Nikola Pekovic (ankle, foot) are not close to returning, according to coach Sam Mitchell.
"I love the way we're playing right now," Mitchell said. In other words, those guys are basically out of the rotation. This is terrific news for Zach LaVine and Gorgui Dieng. Martin is on the trade block for next to nothing and will need to be dealt to have value.
Martin's nERD ranks 96th on the season at -2.3. He's averaging 11.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while posting a 51.8 True Shooting Percentage in 35 games. Through two contests so far in February, LaVine is averaging 15.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 3-pointers per game on a 56.7 True Shooting Percentage. For the year, he has a -4.8 nERD, which ranks 117th in the league.
