Andre Drummond 'definitely' returning to Cavaliers
Cleveland Cavaliers forward/center Andre Drummond announced that he will exercise his player option for 2020-21 on Tuesday's episode of the ESPN podcast Le Batard & Friends -- STUpodity.
Drummond previously said he was unsure if he would opt-in to the $28.7 million offering. "Yeah, it's going to be hard to give up, so you can count on me being in Cleveland still," Drummond said. "I definitely will be in Cleveland." After being acquired from the Detroit Pistons in early February, Drummond averaged 17.5 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.4 blocks, and 0.5 3-pointers in eight games for the Cavaliers. Drummond's decision could mean that unrestricted free agent Tristan Thompson winds up playing elsewhere next season.
Drummond averaged 38.6 FanDuel points in those eight games for the Cavs, compared to 47.0 FanDuel points for the season. He was the second-highest scoring center in terms of FanDuel points before the season was suspended. Drummond was leading the NBA in rebounds per game (15.2) and total rebound percentage (26.0).
