Celtics' Jayson Tatum concerned about extension protection
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is part of a group of young players "concerned about injury getting in the way of ... max contract extensions," writes Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.
According to league sources, the issue is based on insurance policies taken out by the players that would run out at the traditional end of the NBA year, June 30. Tatum and others are concerned about a potentially higher risk of injury after the long layoff. It's something to keep an eye on, but Tatum is expected to join the Celtics in Orlando for the restart. His 28.6 percent usage rate leads all of Boston's starters. Tatum had scored 30-plus in nine of his last 14 games before the hiatus and he had totaled 12 steals over his last five.
Tatum is averaging 41.3 FanDuel points per game, 22nd-most in the NBA. He's 16th in the league in traditional points per game (23.6) and 20th in steals per game (41.3).
