Dirk Nowitzki

Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki, Zaza Pachulia and Wesley Matthews sitting out

Dallas Mavericks players Dirk Nowitzki (rest), Zaza Pachulia (rest) and Wesley Matthews (rest) are listed as out for Wednesday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

What It Means:

This isn't surprising after they each logged 40-plus minutes on Tuesday night in a double-overtime victory over the Sacramento Kings. It's simply for rest, and we fully expect Nowitzki and the gang to be ready to go against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night. Charlie Villanueva -- who scored 19 in his last start on November 14 -- will likely get the nod to run with the first unit tonight. Dwight Powell and Jeremy Evans will likely take some of Nowitzki's minutes, as well.

Nowitzki has been superb this year, evidenced by his 21st-ranked 7.0 nERD. He's averaging 17.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 3-pointers through 34 games in his 18th season. He's been incredibly efficient, sporting the 10th-best Free Throw Percentage in the league, as well as the lowest Turnover Percentage among qualified players.
