3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 3/19/19
In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?
Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it takes only one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference between winning and losing your contests. Which players should we avoid tonight?
Andrew Wiggins, SG, Minnesota Timberwolves
FanDuel Price: $6,400
Over his last eight games, Andrew Wiggins has been pretty bland in daily fantasy, posting 30-plus FanDuel points just twice. In those eight games, the Minnesota Timberwolves' swingman has averaged a modest line of 14.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. For a player dependent on scoring, he has not done much of it during the stretch, posting 20 or more points just once while dropping 14 or fewer four times. The lack of production as hurt his fantasy value as Wiggins is averaging only 25.8 FanDuel points over his last eight games. That would bring a modest 4.0 FanDuel points per $1,000 of tonight’s $6,400 salary.
The sluggish outlook does not bode well in what could be a challenging matchup for Wiggins too versus the Golden State Warriors. With DeMarcus Cousins out of action, Karl-Anthony Towns is likely to go to work down low against the Dubs' second and third string centers. With the offense likely running through KAT, Wiggins is in for a long night against a team that allows just 0.84 FanDuel points per minute to shooting guards.
J.J. Redick, SF, Philadelphia 76ers
FanDuel Price: $5,800
Since the All-Star break, J.J. Redick has been off his game. The Philadelphia 76ers' sharpshooter is sinking just 35.7% of his shots for only 13.5 points per game. As expected his fantasy fortunes have struggled in those last 12 games with Redick posting fewer than 20 FanDuel points five times. His ceiling has been pretty low too as Redick has scored more than 18.1 FanDuel points just once in his last 14 games, dating back to February 10.
Hurting his chances for a breakout on Tuesday is the absence of Joel Embiid against the Charlotte Hornets. When Embiid is off the court, Redick shoots just 37.0% from the floor with a 52.1% true shooting percentage. When the big man is playing with Redick, those numbers rise to 46.9% field goal and 62.6 true shooting percentage, per NBAWowy.com.
Also hurting Redick’s chances is his lack of success against the Hornets this season. In three games, the guard has dropped more than 24.5 FanDuel points just once averaging a modest 21.8 FanDuel points in the other two.
Ivica Zubac, C, Los Angeles Clippers
FanDuel Price: $5,400
Since coming over to the Los Angeles Clippers from the Lakers at the trade deadline, Ivica Zubac has played well but has a had a hard time carving out significant playing time in the middle.
The center is averaging 8.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks in just 20.1 minutes per game for the Clippers. Nice numbers, but the sometimes sporadic nature of his minutes, two games with under 14 minutes in the last six played, make it hard to trust Zubac in DFS. He has collected 22.4 or fewer FanDuel points in three of his last four games thanks to a lack of playing time. Zubac saw just 14 minutes against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.
With unreliable minutes and a daunting matchup against Myles Turner and the Indiana Pacers -- they limit centers to a slate-low 1.07 FanDuel points per minute -- on tap for Zubac, it is best to look elsewhere for your center play on Tuesday.
