3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 10/28/16

Nikola Vucevic put up a huge game on Wednesday, but with the return of Bismack Biyombo, he may see his minutes plummet.

In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include tonight in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about some guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?

Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets each night. After all, it takes only one player to sink a lineup.

With a big slate of NBA games on tonight, searching for the landmines could mean the difference from winning or losing your contests.

Nikola Vucevic, C, Orlando Magic

FanDuel Price: $7,800

Nikola Vucevic played really well in the Orlando Magic's opening game, dropping a double-double and 41.3 FanDuel points. However, that was with the newly signed Bismack Biyombo sitting the game out due to a one-game suspension. Now with Biyombo back in the rotation, Vucevic's minutes might go way down.

In the preseason, Biyombo and Vucevic were essentially in a timeshare at center. With Vucevic's limitations on defense, Frank Vogel may be forced to pull his starting center earlier in this game if he isn't protecting the rim. With a matchup against the Detroit Pistons and Andre Drummond tonight, that may happen sooner rather than later.

Vucevic's price is also a factor. After a huge game on Wednesday, some might blindly play up for Vucevic again tonight, without factoring in his matchup, price, potential ownership, and the Biyombo factor. All of these add up to make Vucevic one of the biggest landmines on the Friday slate, so leave him off your rosters tonight.

DeMarre Carroll, SF, Toronto Raptors

FanDuel Price: $4,500

DeMarre Carroll played pretty well in 29 minutes on opening night for the Toronto Raptors, but tonight, he has an even tougher assignment against LeBron James. The Cleveland Cavaliers' defense posted an insane 88.1 defensive rating on opening night, and they will look to continue to build off that here in an Eastern Conference Finals rematch.

Last season, Carroll did not play well against the Cavs in the playoffs, shooting only 30% from the floor. While all you need is around 23 FanDuel points to reach value from Carroll, his floor is so low that it makes him tough to target tonight, especially against James.

James is still one of the best defenders in the league, which goes overlooked sometimes in DFS circles. James held players he was defending to a 37.4% shooting from the floor last season, and on opening night, that dropped to 27.3% shooting. Don't expect Carroll to hit value easily tonight in what should be a hard-fought, defensive game.

Roy Hibbert, C, Charlotte Hornets

FanDuel Price: $3,900

This is more speculation than it is a hard-numbers fade, but after putting up a huge line on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks, Roy Hibbert might end up a popular punt option at center tonight. At only $3,900, it won't take much for Hibbert to reach value. However, he was going up against Miles Plumlee and Greg Monroe in that first game and now he has to face off against Hassan Whiteside in a much tougher matchup.

In the Miami Heat opening game, Whiteside held players he was defending to only 22.7% shooting from the floor, and last season, he held players he was defending to only 45.5% shooting overall and less than 50% shooting from within six feet from the basket. Hibbert may still have strong game, but I doubt it's a tournament-winning line like on Wednesday.

There is also the factor of the Charlotte Hornets getting healthier in their frontcourt. Cody Zeller played well behind Hibbert in limited minutes, and as he gets healthier, they will move to more of a timeshare at center. Plus, Frank Kaminsky is close to returning as well, clogging up that frontcourt even more. As long as Hibbert stays out of foul trouble, he might still post a usable game, but with the Hornets getting healthier and the tough matchup, don't expect another 5 blocks and 38.3 FanDuel points from Hibbert.
