3 NBA DraftKings Value Plays to Target on 10/17/17

There are quite a few things working in Derrick Rose's favor heading into this game. For one, with Isaiah Thomas sidelined, he will join a revamped Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup that features Jae Crowder at the four and Kevin Love at the five. Moving Tristan Thompson to the bench and starting Love in the middle is a boon for penetrators such as Rose and LeBron James, because there should be significantly more offensive spacing.

While ordinarily a move to a starting lineup featuring names like LeBron, Love, and Dwyane Wade would almost certainly mean a dip in usage, that isn't necessarily going to be the case tonight. Coach Tyronn Lue said he plans to give Rose a fairly quick hook as the starter because he wants to also use him to lead the second unit. In addition to Thompson, this second unit will feature players like J.R. Smith, Kyle Korver, Jeff Green, and Channing Frye -- dudes who are not ordinarily super-high usage options and can space the floor for Rose.

Rose should also benefit from the individual defense of Irving, who is likely going to be more focused on his offense in his return to Cleveland. Irving was almost as bad as Rose defensively last season, ranking 63rd among 73 qualified point guards in defensive real plus-minus.
