Giants closing in on deal with free agent Kyle Blanks

The San Francisco Giants are closing in on a contract with free agent first baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.

What It Means:

Despite the deal being on a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, Shea goes on to say that if Blanks is fully healthy, he has a good chance of making the team. He underwent surgery on both of his Achilles tendons in September. Blanks also brings some versatility as he can play first base or either corner outfield spot.

Blanks was limited to just 71 plate appearances this season, but he performed well in his limited at-bats. He hit .313/.352/.522 with a .382 wOBA and three home runs. The Giants are desperate for offensive help at the corner outfield positions. Their wOBA among left fielders this season was .309 and .323 among right fielders.
