San Francisco Giants catcher/first baseman Buster Posey will undergo season-ending surgery on Monday to repair his labrum and remove a bone spur in his right hip.
Posey is expected to miss 6-8 months, creating some doubt about his status for the beginning of the 2019 season. The hip issue appeared to bother Posey all year, contributing to a career-low .741 OPS and only 5 home runs. Nick Hundley will work as the Giants' everyday catcher moving forward.
Posey averaged 8.6 FanDuel points in 105 games this season, with a .284/.359/.382 with 5 home runs, 41 RBI, 3 steals, and 47 runs scored across 448 plate appearances.
