Giants' Buster Posey to miss 'six-plus months' for 'imminent' hip surgery

San Francisco Giants catcher/first baseman Buster Posey will undergo "imminent" right hip surgery that will sideline him for "six-plus months," Giants vice president of baseball operations Brian Sabean said in an interview on KNBR 680 AM.

What It Means:

“He did get a second opinion in New York and I would say at this point in time the surgery is really imminent, we’re trying to schedule that as we speak,” Sabean said. “It’s not a matter of if it’s going to get done, it’s just when now.” There's no guarantee that Posey will be ready for the start of next season, nor is it clear if he will continue to play before surgery is scheduled. The veteran turns 32 in March. Nick Hundley will see the majority of starts at catcher for the Giants once Posey goes under the knife.

Posey is averaging 8.6 FanDuel points in 104 games this season, while slashing .284/.357/.382 with 5 home runs, 40 RBI, 3 steals, and 46 runs scored across 443 plate appearances.
