Pirates acquire Adeiny Hechavarria from Rays
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and cash considerations from the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league pitcher Matt Seelinger.
What It Means:
Hechavarria will provide infield depth for Pittsburgh and will spend most of his time as a late-inning defensive replacement. jordy Mercer will likely lose some at-bats with Hechavarria on the roster. Willy Adames is now locked in as the Rays' starting shortstop for the rest of the season.
Hechavarria has batted .258 with a .269 wOBA and 3 homers in 237 plate appearances with the Rays this season.
