Cardinals' Lance Lynn (Tommy John) out for 2016

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday and will miss the entire 2016 season.

What It Means:

This is a big blow to the Cardinals' rotation. Pitching wins are what they are, but Lynn's 60 wins since 2012 are the sixth-most in the majors, trailing only Max Scherzer (69), Clayton Kershaw (67), Zack Greinke (66), Madison Bumgarner (65) and David Price (63).

Lynn has been extremely dependable and consistent for St. Louis. In each season since his 2012 rookie year, Lynn has thrown at least 175 innings and posted an xFIP between 3.60 and 3.90. He is one of just 16 pitchers with 175 or more innings pitched in each of the past four seasons.
