Astros reportedly acquire Martin Maldonado from Angels for prospect
The Houston Astros acquired catcher Martin Maldonado from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for a prospect, reports Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
Brian McCann underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee at the beginning of the month and is expected to be out until September, so Maldonado figures to work as the primary starter until then. He won the Gold Glove at catcher in the American League last year and will turn 32 in August.
Maldonado averaged 6.7 FanDuel points in 78 games for the Angels, while slashing .223/.284/.332 with 5 home runs, 32 RBI, and 24 runs scored across 290 plate appearances.
