Mets' Yoenis Cespedes needs season-ending heel surgery

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes announced Wednesday morning that he will undergo season-ending surgery on both of his heels.

What It Means:

This was the expected move after Cespedes met with a specialist on Monday. It puts an early end to a 2018 campaign that was marred by injuries, as the 32-year-old lasted only one game in the second half after returning last Friday from a two-month absence due to hip and quad issues. It's possible that Cespedes is still on the shelf for the beginning of the 2019 season.

Cespedes averaged 11.5 FanDuel points in 38 games while slashing .262/.325/.496 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI across only 157 plate appearances.
