Philadelphia Phillies infielder Trevor Plouffe is out of the lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
Scott Kingery is getting a routine day off, and Valentin will spell him at shortstop while batting seventh against Dodgers righty Kenta Maeda.
Plouffe has made only 8 plate appearances so far this season, notching 2 hits.
