Kirby Yates expected to take over as Padres' closer
San Diego Padres reliever Kirby Yates is expected to take over as the club's closer following Thursday's trade of Brad Hand to the Cleveland Indians.
Yates has converted on both of his save opportunities this season while twirling a 1.43 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 48 strikeouts and 11 walks across 37 2/3 innings.
The 31-year-old right-hander averaged 6.6 FanDuel points in 39 outings for the Padres during the first half.
