Report: Angels' Shohei Ohtani expected to require Tommy John surgery
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani will likely need Tommy John surgery, reports Pedro Gomez of ESPN.
What It Means:
“Everything I’m hearing is that the reality is, he probably will need Tommy John surgery,†Gomez said on Sportscenter Monday morning, adding that it would keep Ohtani out until at least the 2020 season. The 23-year-old duel-threat rookie sensation was placed on the Angels' 10-day disabled list at the end of last week with a Grade 2 sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Ohtani was batting .289/.372/.535 with 6 homers and 20 RBI in 129 plate appearances while also posting a 3.10 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 61 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings pitched this season.
