White Sox' Welington Castillo officially suspended 80 games for PEDs

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo has been suspended 80 games for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

What It Means:

A report surfaced last night, but the suspension has now been confirmed by the team this morning. Castillo violated league rules by taking the hormone Erythropoietin, a PED often used in professional cycling. He will be out until late August and won't be eligible for the postseason if the White Sox were to go on a surprise run. In his stead, Omar Narvaez figures to get most of the starts with Alfredo Gonzalez spelling him behind the plate.

Through 33 games, Castillo has slashed .267/.309/.466 with 6 home runs and 15 RBI this season.
