Blake Swihart's agent asks Red Sox for trade

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart's agent, Brodie Scoffield, told NBC Sports Boston on Tuesday night that he has asked the club for a trade.

What It Means:

The request doesn't necessarily come as a surprise, as Swihart has been a man without a role this season. The Red Sox already have Christian Vazquez and Sandy Leon at catcher, and despite both struggling at the plate, Swihart still hasn't received any starts at his natural position. Overall, he's only accumulated 32 plate appearances, and his four starts have all come at designated hitter.

Swihart is hitting just .138/.219/.172 in limited playing time this season. His best major league season came in 2015 when he hit .274/.319/.392 with 47 runs, 5 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 4 stolen bases over 309 plate appearances.
