Jung Ho Kang working at Pirates' spring complex in Florida
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang has been facing live pitching and taking ground balls at the Pirates' spring training complex in Bradenton, Florida.
Kang was arrested for DUI in December 2016 and given an eight-month jail sentence, which was suspended for two years. Kang also lost an appeal of the sentence. The State Department denied Kang’s visa request before the 2017 season and the Pirates put him on the restricted list. Kang has apparently received a waiver from the State Department and obtained a P-1 visa, though what changed between early 2017 and now is unclear. Kang could return to the Pirates' active roster this season, but he'll likely require some games in the minors first.
Kang's last major league game came on October 2, 2016, in a year where he slashed .255/.354/.513 with 21 home runs, 62 RBI, and 45 runs over 354 plate appearances.
