The New York Mets have traded pitcher Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for catcher Devin Mesoraco and cash.
Harvey was designated for assignment last week after a horrific start to the season. After the 29-year-old refused to play in the minors, the Mets were left with two options, release or trade him. The move fits both sides well as the Mets need a catcher with Travis d'Arnaud out with an injury and the rebuilding Reds could afford to take a flier on the once-promising Harvey.
Harvey threw 27 innings (4 starts) this season with a 7.00 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts.
