Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Soroka was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and will make his major league debut in Tuesday night's series opener with the New York Mets.
Soroka, a 20-year-old right-hander and 2015 first-round selection, twirled an impressive 1.99 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 24 strikeouts and 5 walks across 22 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. Chase Whitley was optioned to Gwinnett in a corresponding roster move and Sean Newcomb, who was originally scheduled to throw on Tuesday, will start on Wednesday instead.
Soroka went 2-0 in four starts for the Gwinnett Stripers.
