Oakland Athletics pitcher Barry Zito announced that he is retiring from baseball.
This was expected with the Athletics allowing Zito to make several starts after the team was eliminated from postseason contention.
Zito was a workhorse from 2001 to 2006 with the Athletics. Over those six seasons, he averaged 222.9 innings per year. He'll finish his career with a 4.04 ERA and 1,885 strikeouts over 2,576 2/3 innings.
