Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier will undergo surgery on his right thumb and is expected to miss 8-to-12 weeks.
Kiermaier suffered a torn ligament in his thumb on a head first slide attempt into second base, and it appears his absence could stretch into July. Mike Trout had a similar injury in 2017 and only missed seven weeks, so there is hope that Kiermaier could return on the shorter end of that 8-to-12 week timeline. The Rays are calling up pitcher Chih-Wei Hu to add some bullpen help, while Mallex Smith and Johnny Field will gain a lot of playing time in the outfield with Kiermaier going on the DL.
Kiermaier is averaging 6.1 FanDuel points per game this season.
