Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Mark Buehrle said Thursday that he will consider playing next season.
Buehrle will hit the free-agent market prior to his age-37 season. The popular sentiment was that Buehrle would retire after the Jays had him pitch on short rest in the regular-season finale. Buehrle was not on the team's roster for the American League Division Series.
Buehrle was able to record a 3.81 ERA this year, but his 4.71 SIERA indicates that a mark like that may not be repeatable in 2016. He averaged only 4.12 strikeouts per nine innings, though his ground-ball rate did increase to 45.9 percent, his highest mark since 2008. Buehrle may, indeed, get a job, but he is likely not a fantasy option for next year.
