New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird will undergo surgery Tuesday to "remove a small broken spur on the outside aspect of his right ankle."
Bird, who also missed time with an ankle injury last season, is expected to spend 6-8 weeks on the shelf. If the Yankees choose to stay within the organization, Neil Walker and Tyler Austin could split time at first while Bird is out.
Prior to this announcement, numberFire's models projected Bird to hit .248 with 24 home runs, 62 RBI, and 56 runs scored in 467 plate appearances this season.
