Giants' Jeff Samardzija (strained pectoral) will open year on disabled list
San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija's suffered a strained pectoral muscle, an MRI taken on his right shoulder revealed.
What It Means:
Samardzija will open the year on the shelf as he lands on the disabled list for the first time in his career. "He’ll go a week without throwing the ball and then crank it up," manager Bruce Bochy said of the 33-year-old right-hander. Derek Holland may be tabbed to replace Samardzija in the Giants' rotation.
