Padres to interview Alex Cora for manager
The San Diego Padres will interview Alex Cora for their managerial opening, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The Padres announced last week that interim manager Pat Murphy would not returning after taking over for Bud Black mid season. Cora is also reportedly going to interview for openings with the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals.
The Padres failed to meet expectations last year, finishing 74-88 and 18 games out in the National League West. They ranked 22nd in wRC+ last year, but they did manage to finish eighth in xFIP. The cupboard certainly isn't bare, though things could get difficult for an incoming manager if the team decides to shed assets.
