Jake Arrieta plans on being ready for Phillies by first week of season
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jake Arrieta intends to be ready for the first week of the season, he said at Tuesday's introductory press conference.
Arrieta added that he's been throwing 50-65 pitch bullpen sessions every two or three days. Despite signing so late in the spring, it sounds like the 32-year-old right-hander will be ready to roll in time for Opening Day. That said, the Phillies may decide to take a conservative approach and hold Arrieta out for the first series of the year.
numberFire's models project Arrieta to record a 3.51 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 23.2 strikeout percentage while going 14-8 across 177 innings this season.
