Jacob deGrom (back) will make Grapefruit League debut for Mets on Sunday
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (back) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday, pitching coach Dave Eiland said.
“That’s what we’re shooting for,†Eiland said. “He has to throw his side and if he gets through that, we’re shooting for Sunday.†deGrom has been delayed by back stiffness this spring but felt good after throwing 30 pitches in a two-inning simulated session on Tuesday. The 29-year-old right-hander will probably be ready for the regular season by his second or third turn in the Mets' rotation.
numberFire's models project deGrom to record a 3.63 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 28.4 strikeout percentage while going 14-10 across 201 innings this season.
