Nats' Daniel Murphy (knee) unlikely to be ready for Opening Day

Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy (knee) is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day as reported by Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

What It Means:

Murphy underwent offseason microfracture surgery on his right knee and is still wearing a brace. He is hitting off a tee and playing soft toss but appears a ways away from playing, and the Nationals won't likely rush him. Howie Kendrick is expected to start at second base for Washington on Opening Day.

Murphy slashed .322/.384/.543 with 23 homers and 93 RBI in 593 plate appearances in 2017.
